SDA 40-B 200 Proof is a high-purity, anhydrous ethyl alcohol specially denatured with small amounts of tert-butyl alcohol and denatonium benzoate to make it unsuitable for beverage consumption. For hand-sanitizer manufacturing, it provides a fast-evaporating alcohol base that can be diluted with purified water and combined with approved moisturizers, thickeners, and other ingredients to achieve the required finished alcohol concentration. Because hand sanitizer is regulated as an over-the-counter drug in the United States, manufacturers must verify that the alcohol and finished formulation meet all applicable FDA, USP, labeling, manufacturing, impurity-testing, and registration requirements. SDA 40-B is highly flammable and must be handled with proper ventilation, grounding, fire protection, and personal protective equipment.
