Methanol

A highly volatile industrial solvent and chemical feedstock used in manufacturing, fuels, synthesis, cleaning and processing applications.

Methanol

Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol, is a colorless, highly volatile liquid used as a solvent, chemical feedstock, fuel component, and processing aid across numerous industries. It is commonly used in the manufacture of formaldehyde, acetic acid, resins, plastics, coatings, adhesives, biodiesel, windshield-washer fluids, and other industrial chemicals. Methanol can dissolve many organic compounds, mixes completely with water, and evaporates quickly, making it useful in laboratory procedures, chemical synthesis, extraction, cleaning, and blended solvent formulations. It is available in different purity grades, so users should select the appropriate specifications for their manufacturing process or finished product.

Methanol is highly flammable and acutely toxic if swallowed, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Exposure can cause serious illness, blindness, permanent organ damage, or death, and methanol must never be used as a substitute for beverage-grade ethanol or in applications that could result in human consumption. It should be handled only with adequate ventilation, compatible equipment, chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and controls designed to prevent skin contact and vapor exposure. Containers must remain tightly closed and be stored away from heat, sparks, flames, oxidizers, and other incompatible materials. Users should review the product specifications and Safety Data Sheet and follow all applicable workplace, transportation, environmental, and fire-safety requirements.
