Acetone
Acetone is a fast-evaporating, colorless solvent used throughout industrial, commercial, laboratory, and manufacturing applications. Its strong solvency makes it effective for dissolving oils, greases, resins, adhesives, inks, paints, coatings, and many other organic materials. Common uses include cleaning and degreasing metal parts, preparing surfaces before painting or bonding, thinning or removing certain coatings, cleaning tools and production equipment, processing plastics and resins, and serving as a solvent or intermediate in chemical manufacturing. Acetone is also miscible with water and many organic solvents, which makes it useful in blended solvent systems and applications requiring rapid drying with minimal residue.
Because acetone evaporates quickly, it can improve production speed and reduce drying time; however, it is highly flammable and its vapors can accumulate in poorly ventilated areas. It should be stored in tightly closed, compatible containers away from heat, sparks, flames, oxidizing agents, and other incompatible materials. Proper ventilation, grounding and bonding, approved electrical equipment, and suitable gloves and eye protection should be used during handling. Users should consult the product specifications and Safety Data Sheet to confirm the appropriate acetone grade, material compatibility, purity, and safety requirements for their particular application.
