Denatured Ethanol SDA40B 190 Proof

SDA 40-B 190 Proof is a specially denatured ethyl alcohol containing approximately 95% ethanol and 5% water, with small amounts of tert-butyl alcohol and denatonium benzoate added to make it unsuitable for beverage consumption. In hand-sanitizer manufacturing, it serves as an effective, fast-evaporating alcohol base that can be blended with purified water, moisturizers, thickeners, and other permitted ingredients to produce the required finished alcohol concentration. Because hand sanitizer is regulated as an over-the-counter drug in the United States, manufacturers must ensure that the alcohol, formulation, testing, labeling, facility registration, and production practices satisfy all applicable FDA and USP requirements. SDA 40-B is highly flammable and requires appropriate ventilation, grounding, fire controls, storage, and personal protective equipment.

For perfumes, colognes, body sprays, and related fragrance products, SDA 40-B 190 Proof provides excellent solvency for many fragrance oils while its modest water content can simplify formulations that already require some water. It evaporates quickly after application, allowing the intended fragrance notes to develop while providing good clarity and consistent fragrance distribution when properly formulated. Compared with 200-proof material, 190-proof SDA 40-B may be better suited to fragrance products that do not require nearly anhydrous alcohol, although every formula should be evaluated for oil solubility, clarity, odor, stability, and compatibility.
