Xylene
Versatile xylene solvent for coatings, inks, adhesives, industrial cleaning and chemical manufacturing applications.
Xylene
Xylene is a clear, colorless aromatic hydrocarbon solvent used across paints and coatings, adhesives, sealants, printing inks, rubber processing, petroleum refining, automotive products, industrial cleaning, and chemical manufacturing. Commercial xylene typically contains a mixture of ortho-, meta-, and para-xylene isomers and provides strong solvency for resins, oils, greases, waxes, and other organic materials. Its moderate evaporation rate can improve flow, leveling, and working time in coatings and printing applications compared with faster-evaporating solvents. Xylene is also used as a cleaning and degreasing agent, a laboratory solvent, a chemical feedstock, and a component in certain fuels and blended solvent formulations.
Xylene is flammable, and its vapors may accumulate or travel to an ignition source when adequate ventilation is not provided. Exposure can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system and may cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, or central nervous system effects; repeated or prolonged exposure may present additional health risks. Xylene should be stored in tightly closed, compatible containers away from heat, sparks, flames, oxidizing agents, and incompatible materials. Proper ventilation, grounding and bonding, approved electrical equipment, chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and any required respiratory protection should be used during handling. Users should verify the appropriate xylene grade, isomer composition, purity, evaporation characteristics, material compatibility, and regulatory requirements for their intended application.
